Coronavirus Update (4/26)

As of today (4/26) at noon, the amount of coronavirus cases and deaths are still on the rise! Worldwide, there are nearly 3 million confirmed cases with over 200 thousand deaths. Just in the U.S., 974 thousand confirmed cases with nearly 50 thousand deaths. In Colorado, 12,968 confirmed cases with 672 deaths. It appears the virus isn’t slowing down anywhere and anytime soon!

The World Health Organization (WHO) is warning people who have had Covid-19 are not necessarily immune by the presence of antibodies from getting the virus again. “There is no evidence yet that people who have had Covid-19 will not get a second infection,” WHO said in a scientific brief published Friday. It cautions against governments that are considering issuing so-called “immunity passports” to people who have had Covid-19, assuming they are safe to resume normal life.

Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus Task Force coordinator, told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday that while the coronavirus trends give her “great hope” for slow re-openings over the next few months, many of the social distancing measures that have upended American life will be a constant fixture through the summer.

Even our military is having problems with COVID-19. 840 sailors on the beleaguered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt docked in Guam have tested positive. The U.S. Navy reported 4,234 sailors moved ashore into housing on Naval Base Guam and into hotels in Tamuning and Tumon. Only sailors who test negative and who are asymptomatic are quarantined in Guam’s hotels. Sailors who test positive remain on base. One sailor has died from the virus.

The coronavirus pandemic is a shock to our national economy with the national unemployment rate edging towards 16% or higher this month and may require more stimulus to ensure a strong rebound, a White House economic adviser said on Sunday. Lockdowns around the United States to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus have hammered the economy, shuttering businesses and sending unemployment skyrocketing.

Meanwhile in Denver, demonstrators gathered in their vehicles in Denver to call on government officials to cancel rent and mortgages during the coronavirus pandemic. The protesters remained in their cars to maintain social distancing according to CBS Denver.

Be sure to comply with the our Colorado governor’s request to wear a facemask when in a public place!
