As of today (4/2) at 7 am MDT, the amount of coronavirus confirmed cases worldwide has exceeded 1.03 million with over 54,130 deaths. In the U.S. alone has exceeded 245,175 cases with over 6,059 deaths with 50% of those deaths just in New York. 3,728 cases and 97 deaths in Colorado. Bottom line is the crisis is definitely not over and the number of cases and deaths is still increasing per the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)!
The cities of New York and Los Angeles are recommending their residents wear facemasks or even scarves to prevent the spread of this terrible disease. Many people are making their own homemade facemasks as shown here. However, the CDC is concerned about the false hope that facemasks do not provide total protection against the coronavirus.
Interestingly and sadly, the U.S. Navy has relieved the captain of the USS Teddy Roosevelt (now docked in Guam) with his recent letter to the Pentagon to obtain medical help and remove the sick sailors from his aircraft carrier. Makes us wonder what is wrong with the Pentagon and their lack of empathy for their sick military personnel! The captain was given a glorius send-off by his staff and crew as he departed. It seems the acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper should be relieved of their command! Even veterans like myself are not happy about this!
Two cruise line ships are finally being allowed to dock in Miami after more deaths have ravaged their passengers. The passengers will be airlifted to their respective countries after being quarantined for several weeks.
New hospitals are being created in 10 days across the world by converting stadiums or city parks into temporary hospitals. In the UK, the Excel stadium will host 400 beds with up to 4,000 beds in several weeks.
President Trump said each state is responsible for their own medical actions and the Federal Government provides the support where needed. He elaborated on having many suppliers increase their capacity for medical equipment and supplies because of the Defense Emergency Act. It’s obvious each federal, state, and local government officials were caught off guard and probably should have listened closer to their medical experts versus listening to the economists. Bottom line is no matter how many people are sick or can’t work, it won’t matter about the economy! Look at the stock market, unemployment claims, and the oil prices in the last two weeks.
It seems the best plan is to lockdown the country or even the world to prevent the rapid expansion of this highly contagious disease! We can only hope we can conquer this terrible disease by the end of this quarter!
Stay home and stay healthy!
