The CDC (Center for Disease Control) is asking anyone with symptoms to call their health care provider or local health department for guidance before seeking care at a doctor’s office or emergency room to avoid spreading germs to others.
However, if you develop emergency warning signs – pain or pressure in the chest, disorientation or confusion, a blue tint in your face or lips, or difficulty breathing or shortness of breath – seek medical attention immediately.
If your doctor suspects COVID-19, Medicare will cover the following related needs:
• Medicare covers the lab tests for COVID-19. You will pay no out of pocket costs.
• Medicare covers all medically necessary hospitalizations. This includes if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 and might otherwise have been discharged from the hospital after an inpatient stay, but instead you need to stay in the hospital under quarantine.
• There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19. However, if one becomes available, it will be covered by all Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D).
• If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you have access to these same benefits. Medicare allows these plans to waive cost-sharing for COVID-19 lab tests. Many plans now offer additional telehealth benefits.
