With an abundance of caution and concern to protect the health and welfare of older adults as it relates to the transmission of Covid-19 (novel coronavirus), the recommendation of Governor Polis that we be especially mindful of keeping older adults safe, and a consultation with Wendy Bamberg, MD, Medical Epidemiologist, Colorado Department of Public Health, the Colorado Gerontological Society Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to reschedule the Salute to Seniors. It is now for scheduled for August 22, 2020 at the Colorado Convention Center, Mile High Ballroom, Denver from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
The recent developments in the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in Colorado, and with an understanding of the possible vulnerability of those in the aging community, we have made this difficult decision and invite you to share our concerns so that we can keep all older adults safe in our State. We understand this may inconvenience some and we apologize for any difficulties this may cause you as an exhibitor. However, the rapidly changing nature of this public health incident requires us to make difficult decisions.
We encourage all individuals to continue to be vigilant about preventing the spread of all diseases and infections. To prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask. CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
- Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
As an exhibitor, all exhibits will be honored on the new date. We have been able to reschedule the entertainment and are working on notifying attendees through media sources, our website, and other sources about the change in date. If you have questions or need additional information, please call us at 303-333-3482 or email us.
