Don’t Let A Free Meal End Up Costing You Thousands!

I love a free meal just as much as anyone – provided there are no strings attached. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case when it comes to lunch and dinner sales presentations hawking everything from investments and travel clubs to insurance and flipping houses.

What’s the harm in attending? Nothing if you leave your checkbook or credit cards at home and choose to enjoy the free meal and nothing more. Many attendees, however, get caught up in the moment and make decisions that end up costing thousands of dollars. Here’s what you need to keep in mind if you accept a free-meal sales invitation:

• Presenters often use high-pressure sales tactics to get you to sign up without taking time to think the offer through. Reputable companies using this sales method will let you take your time and do your research and not pressure you into signing a check before you’re ready to do so.

• Untrustworthy schemers sometimes try to convince investors to pay a lot of money upfront and then make a quick get-away with your cash in hand. Oh, you didn’t get a reliable phone number or address because you didn’t check out the business first? Good luck getting your money back.

• If the seminar presenter is trying to sell an investment that claims a high return with little or no risk, beware, even if it comes with the promise of a money-back guarantee. Again, take time to check out the investment before handing over your hard-earned savings.

• You’ve heard this one before: If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Start With Trust! A good place to check out companies offering this type of presentation is at bbb.org or call 970-484-1348.
