Looking for one place to learn a lot about caregiving? Boulder County Area Agency on Aging once again presents the Caregiving Symposium, a free educational event for families and friends of elders—or for anyone interested in the topic of family caregiving. As the largest event of its kind in Boulder County, the Caregiving Symposium offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn about local resources and gain a better understanding of caregiving issues.
This year’s event is Thursday, May 22, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. (come for all or part), at the Plaza Convention Center, 1850 Industrial Circle,
Longmont. It features a large resource fair of service providers, educational materials, complimentary lunch, and twelve one hour workshops on mental health issues, Medicare, talking about end-of-life wishes, caregiver selfcare, legal issues, Alzheimer’s/dementia
care, managing home care providers, Latino caregiving, fall prevention, care management, and more. There’s also the opportunity to participate in a focus group and offer input to BCAAA about caregiver needs and services.
To make it easier for family caregivers to attend the Caregiving Symposium, free on-site respite care is offered by reservation; call
303-441-1543 to learn more. Financial assistance for respite care at home or at an adult day program also may be available. Registration for the event is encouraged, but not required. Register at Synposium Registration, or call 303-441-1685, or register at the door. The full agenda is available on the registration website (or by email at InfoCaregiver@ bouldercounty.org ).
The Caregiving Symposium is co-sponsored by Aging Services Foundation of Boulder County, Meals on Wheels of Boulder, Balfour Senior Living, Boulder County Care Connect, and 50 Plus Marketplace News.
