The battle is on as to the best green chili – New Mexico, Southern Colorado or right here in Greeley’s backyard at Historic Tigges Farm, 12404 Country Road 64 1/2, Greeley. Not even a contest! Northern Colorado knows!
To celebrate peak chile month – September – Historic Tigges Farm is hosting the popular “Bossa Nova Farm to Table Green Chile Nights” again! Traditional taco’s or tortilla’s smothered in pork green chile (mild or medium) made with Tigges Farm chilies and Leffler Farms pork. Add Spanish rice, refried beans, toppings, dessert and a drink. Yum, Yum. Make it hotter with Sahuaro green chile pepper flakes, or Kersey Pool Hall hot green salsa, each made with Tigges Fresno chiles. That’s not all! Trinity Spanish Church of Christ of Greeley entertains – Mariachi Style. It sounds too good to be true, so what’s the hitch? Reservation tickets must be made in advance, the Wednesday before the Friday Night (Sept 6, 13, 20, 27) of your choice. No walk-in’s. Come to the farm to buy tickets or go online www.TiggesFarm.com or follow the link on Tigges Farm facebook Events. You’ll find reasonable prices. Doors open at 6pm and dinner is served at 6:30pm. We have hopes some low rider cars cruise in before the meal.
Many Tigges Farm chilies are grown from seed purchased from the grandson of the developer of Big Jim who lives in the Hatch Valley. Find your heat and favorite green chile among 16 choices including Mira Sol and Mosco (favorite varieties of Southern Colorado). Visit website and pull up “How Hot are Your Peppers on the Roasted Chile Page.
Come early and browse the Gift Shop. Arts, crafts and fall decor decorate the walls along with Macramé by Artesian/Crafter, Kim Oelschlager. Special fun are the “farm style” washer bracelets.
