Boulder County’s first Green House® Nursing Homes opens in Longmont in September 2019, bringing a new model of skilled nursing care and elder-centered services to the established Hover Senior Living Community. The Katherine and Charles Hover Green Houses® will provide 24- hour skilled nursing care in four 8100 square-foot residences. Each will be home to 12 elders, having a private bedroom and bathroom, with a wheelchair-accessible shower. The four homes offer covered patios and a landscaped courtyard for gardening, walking, and social events.
Built by Hover Senior Living Community, this innovative alternative to the traditional nursing care features an open floor plan that includes an accessible chef-style kitchen, den for family get togethers, family style dining and a living room anchored by a grand fireplace. Other common spaces include; sunrooms, front porches and lighted walking paths. The homes are licensed as a single skilled nursing home and offer specialized full nursing care. Hover’s homes feature a Colorado design with stone, wood, and natural colors. The administration building, “The Gathering Place” provides offices and meeting space and a training kitchen. Each house has a consistent staff who serve as House Managers after receiving 160 hours of specialized training.
For 40 years, Hover Senior Living Community has provided affordable housing as a nonprofit organization serving Boulder County. In 2012, the Hover Board and the current CEO chose to bring the Green House model and The Eden® Alternative to its campus. Green Houses and Eden are the creation of renowned geriatrician Dr. William Thomas, who envisioned the need for a departure from traditional nursing homes.
The Grand Opening Celebration is August 29, at 2:00 pm, 1425 Belmont Drive, Longmont. For more information please contact:
