Meet Greta…

Greta Krafsur, Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine is an energetic and enthusiastic woman who called Estelline, South Dakota home for the first 18 years of her life. Her fondest childhood memory is enjoying the company of her grandparents on the family farm. She spent a lot of time involved in 4H activities and felt very proud working with her Dad on the farm.

She graduate high school then off to South Dakota State College earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Her drive did not stop there. Greta found herself on tract for a Masters Degree at the University of Tennessee. Coming to Colorado State University she achieved a lifelong goal of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in May 2013. Her professional dreams are forever ongoing. Greta is in Anatomic Pathology at CSU and will pursue a PhD in Bowvin Pulmonary Hypertension. Her work and studies keep Greta at CSU Veterinary Medical Center where she, also advises CSU Senior Veterinary Students in Necropsy cases.

Greta’s professional career often takes her to Barrow, Alaska where she is involved in documenting the health of Arctic Marine Mammals for the establishment of a health focused baseline which the Inupiat Eskimos can use to manage this vital resource which is their sustenance. This baseline can also be used to determine cause and effect in the event a disaster causes sickness or death to this life supporting resource.

Of her many exciting and interesting Alaskan experiences, Greta cites three; the first time seeing a Polar Bear, enjoying a seal hunt on the ice with Eskimo friends and participating in a Bow Head Whale hunt, resulting in a 26 ft harvest weighing between 25,000 & 50,000 pounds. Her most recent trip found her in a northern Arctic Winter Costal Storm with 49 knots of hollowing wind and reaching -65º with wind chill. Greta is not necessarily looking forward to another one of those.

Greta and husband David have three teenage sons Joseph, Benjamin and Joshua. Their family is also joined by a Siberian Husky, Nanuk; two cats Chowder and Mitty. Fort Collins is their home. They are an extremely active family.
