It’s hard to believe that it’s been 27 years since Denver Section celebrated its first Harambee Brunch / Founder’s Day at the Warwick Hotel, near downtown Denver. ‘Harambee’ is Swahili meaning ‘all pull together, moving forward’. The concept embraces the vision and the legacy of founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. That spirit and vision inspired Dr. Bethune to organize The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. in 1935. We are 80+ years old today, still leading, empowering and advocating for women of African descent as they support their families and communities.
On Saturday, December 1,2018 @ Park Hill Golf Club, we gathered for “ A Call To Action, Planning for the Future”. Mrs. Lauren Y. The following Six Women of achievement and diversity in their educational backgrounds served as panelist: Carla Ladd, Jennifer Bacon, Noreen Wilson, Thelma Craig, Debra Fard, Janiece Mackey and Kristen Pough served as Moderator. At the end of the day and when it is all said and done “ We Are The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For”. We are the Resources for the future. “Four for the Future” is our National Strategic Plan which includes programs in the areas of Entrepreneurism, Financial Literacy, Economic Empowerment, Health Disparities, Steam Education, Public Policy and Civic Engagement. Let’s make it happen by pulling together, moving forward!
