It’s becoming a holiday tradition in Greeley, like putting up holiday decorations or sending out cards. You might have seen a few photos of that bitter cold Saturday when volunteers first placed wreaths in the snow.
It’s a simple thing to do. It’s something that comes from the heart. Each September they seek donations to help place an evergreen wreath on every Veteran’s grave at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, Colorado.
They are part of the National organization, Wreaths Across America, based out of Harrington, Maine. In 1992, the owner of Worcester Wreath Company had a surplus of evergreen wreaths and wanted to place them at Arlington Cemetery. In 2005, a photo of the stones at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet.
In 2007, the Worcester family formed Wreaths Across America, a non-profit 501-(c)(3) organization to: Remember. Honor. Teach.
In 2014, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the U.S. and beyond, including the Pearl Harbor Memorial, Bunker Hill, and Valley Forge, as well as placing 226,525 wreaths at Arlington Cemetery.
Consider sponsoring a fresh evergreen wreath for $15 to be placed on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. Visit wreathsacrossamerica.org for more information.
