In daily commuting on our nation’s roads and freeways, there has been a noticeable increase in road rage just in Colorado. Tailgating, speeding, weaving through traffic that everyone has witnessed, experienced or even been guilty of road rage. New federal data reveals that, per capita, Colorado is second in the nation for deaths caused by road rage and aggressive driving. Almost one in 10 deadly car accidents in the state in 2016 were related to road rage. And it seems to be getting worse due to our crowded freeways, highways, and major city roads.
However, a person needs to protect themselves from road rage. I’ve experienced several incidents of road rage just in Fort Collins, where a driver was unhappy and wanted to confront me physically. I just turned off to another road to avoid an incident.
I used to live in California in the 1990s, where road rage was common and sometimes very scary. People have been shot or run over due to road rage in Colorado. Do report road rage ASAP by recording their license plate and make of car and hopefully a description of the driver if possible as they could kill someone or cause major injury to you or others.
I suggest installing either a dash cam or mirror cam in your vehicle. These camera packages vary from $25 for a single camera or front and back cameras for under $80. Even mounting your smartphone using the video option on your dash works too. It may save you from possible legal action in proving the other driver at fault or at least ID the car and driver in a road rage incident. Again, technology comes to the rescue in making this a safer planet.
