Boulder County Care Connect is pleased to honor Dave Pinkow as this month’s volunteer. After retiring from CU as French Horn professor since the 1980’s, Dave Pinkow and his wife Louise purchased a cabin and property in the small mountain community of Allenspark, Colorado. Over the years, the Pinkows have spent many weekends camping near Allenspark, and were pleased to make this beautiful town their retirement getaway.
For several years, Dave has been volunteering with the Allenspark Community Cultures Council (ACCC), which offers a Food Bank, Clothes Closet, computer literacy classes for seniors, community meals, and cultural activities for Allenspark residents and visitors. As a Community Cultures Council volunteer, Dave volunteers 2 to 3 days each week driving food up the mountain from Community Food Share in Boulder. He also helps with food distribution and local deliveries.
“It’s rewarding to be involved in the community, to meet people, and to do things that are useful,” Dave says. “I like the feeling of contributing and serving others.” Margie Patterson, the Chair of the ACCC, appreciates Dave as well. “Dave has shown great initiative
and leadership toward the food bank,” she tells us. “He is an enthusiastic volunteer, and a great ambassador of the gallery!”
Dave’s love of horns extended to a love of the “Alp Horn” which he plays each year at the Gala benefitting the ACCC. Many people come to hear Dave play, and to see him standing in the meadow playing instrument is spectacular!
