With the close of the books on 2013, a few might have a sigh of relief. What a year 2013 turned out to be in Boulder County. While many celebrate the opening of the books for 2014, some still realize the challenge of rebuilding after September’s flooding. That time might be best described as the good, the bad and the ugly depending on its impact on immediate family and friends.
Celebrations come with gratitude for helping hands, sometimes offered by strangers. Celebrations encompass numerous experiences from earing wonderful programs to participating in a special family or community event.
Close Those Books, Open New Ones In retrospect, more highs than lows dotted the year. Whatever form they took, they too become worthy of celebration. Were there unusual experiences? Did you family add new members? Did friends or loved ones enjoy milestone birthdays or anniversaries? How were those special occasions celebrated?
As this new year opens its books, opportunities abound beyond those found on a resolutions list. Before moving too quickly into the new,
take some time to reflect on where you’ve been this past year. What experiences did you enjoy? What shaped you to this point? What
inner strength did you draw upon, perhaps even to your surprise?
Resolution lists begin to appear with each new year. Why wait for January 1 to develop resolutions? Why not create a daily resolution
or two. They become more easily managed and just possibly, realized.
Dare to do something different during the new year. Instead of watching another do something interesting or unusual, why not jump in and try it yourself. Living in the midst of the new experience might be more fun than sitting on the sidelines watching.
Dream big. Set out to discover something new during 2014 even if it happens to be about yourself. May your new year be filled with an abundance of celebrations, experiences lived well and dreams realized.
