Women Among Men, takes place on Saturday, 9/22 in Denver and Sunday, 9/23 in Boulder. The concert celebrates the ever-evolving addition of women in classical music, as artists, conductors, and composers. This concert features violinist Yumi Hwang-Williams, concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, in Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C Major.
Also programmed is Bach’s Die Schätzbarkeit der weiten Erde, performed with Yumi and local favorite, soprano Amanda Balestrieri, Mozart’s Serenade No. 6 for Orchestra in D major K. 239, Serenata notturna, and Polish, female composer Grayzna Bacewicz’s Concerto for String Orchestra.
On Saturday, 12/1 and Sunday, 12/2, performances in Boulder, the spirit of classical music takes flight with Handel’s Messiah (including the Hallelujah Chorus). PMC partners with the Boulder Chamber Chorale and Dr. Vicki Burrichter, Artistic Director, for these special performances. In Handel’s charitable tradition, PMC and Boulder Chamber Chorale are including a food drive.
The season finale, 21st Century Style!, will be performed Friday, 2/22 in Denver, Saturday, 2/23 in Boulder, and Sunday, 2/24 in Longmont.
21st Century Style! explores the evolution of classical music inspired by previous eras and multiple cultures. World-renowned harpsichordist Jory Vinikour joins PMC to perform Philip Glass’ Concerto for Harpsichord and Chamber Orchestra. Although modern, it was written for a Baroque instrument and a Haydnsized orchestra.
Also programmed is a World Premiere of composer Max Wolpert’s Harpsichord Concerto #1, “Baroque in Mirror.” This work pays homage to Scottish, Jewish, and Welsh fiddle players from the Baroque era. Haydn’s Symphony No. 22, The Philosopher completes the program.
