Antique Quilt Show

Antique quilts will be on display, presented by museum staff, as part of a town-wide event being put on by the local very popular Lyons Quilting shop. The event takes place on, Saturday, August 11, 1-3 p.m. The quilts will line the walls of Rogers Hall. They are being gathered from households in the Lyons, CO area from pioneer families. Many have never been on display. Nationally known quilt collector and presenter Jeanne Ann Wright will go through many of the quilts to explain their patterns. Some pioneer family members tell the history of their ancestor quilt maker, and why the quilt was created and how it was used. A few quilts come from the museum’s collection. Take a trip back into history. Enjoy light refreshments.

No quilts are planned to be for sale. There is a Silent Auction, consisting mainly of gift certificates, so that winners who are not present can have the certificate mailed to them. A donation of $10 at the door is requested, as it is a fundraiser for the Town’s Oral History Project. 60 video interviews of original Pioneer Families are complete, with a dozen left to do. Many of the past participants have passed away, and it is the aim of the project to complete the remainder within the coming year. People can see the early interviews on DVDs at the museum, daily.
