When CU Opera’s new production of “La Bohéme” opens Oct. 25, Puccini’s beloved tale of Parisian artists offers a taste of New York, and Italy.
Performing with CU Opera for the first time, former University of Colorado Boulder fullback and current professional performer Keith Miller sings the part of Colline for the Saturday performance.

“It’s a great opportunity for our students to share the stage with a professional,” says CU Opera Director Leigh Holman.
The production also highlights CU Opera’s continuing collaboration with some of Italy’s top opera talent. Paolo Panizza, who has led the historic Arena di Verona for more than 20 years, directs the Puccini classic in Boulder. Though set in Paris, the opera is sung in its original Italian.
“Our performers get to work with a professional Italian stage director in the original language,” Holman says.
CU Opera offers contemporary and classic works performed by students in the CU-Boulder College of Music’s voice program, led by Holman and Music Director Nicholas Carthy.
