I am happy to introduce myself as the new Caregiver Initiative Coordinator for Boulder County’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA). I have been working with older adults and caregivers for the past two decades in various roles, including as a registered nurse. It has been my honor to support caregivers and their care recipients through hospice work, in home care, and in care facilities. Additionally, for the past five years I have had the great fortune of being able to teach in-home caregiving skills as part of the National Caregiver Training Course. This is a no-cost course offered several times a year by the Area Agency on Aging. Through work with older adults and caregivers over the past 23 years, I have come to see the role of family caregivers as one of the most honorable ones we can hold in life. I have learned invaluable lessons from family caregivers and those they care for; each with their own challenges, strengths, perspectives, and wisdom. I have been humbled at being allowed to share their journey. I look forward to continuing my work with caregivers and their families through this position.
